Expiriments

Willy’s first experiment, was to see if he could taste,

The difference in one hundred jars of kindergarten paste.

In second grade, when other kids put art supplies in rows,

Will experimented putting crayons up his nose.

In third grade, on the black top, where the kids all ran around,

Will tried walking backwards with his hands upon the ground.

And so it went for Willy through the days and months and years.

He did his weird experiments, ignoring taunts and jeers.

And although people thought him strange, well now you ought to see him,

He’s now the big chief scientist at the insect museum.

He studies insect taste buds, and noses, legs, and eyes.

And people say that one day he will win the Nobel Prize.

He’s gone to the Antarctic, and the mountains of Peru,

He’s studied bugs in Madagascar, and also Timbuktu.

He always is on television, talking ‘bout ecology,

He’s made about 10 million bucks from books on entomology.

And so, if you’re the kind of kid who does experiments,

Don’t worry if the other kids make jokes at your expense.

I’ve often found the weird kid — the one that people tease,

Is the one that makes discoveries, or cures a rare disease.

And the person who decides to march to his or her own tune,

Is the one who’ll ride on rocketships and go up to the moon.

Or become a great musician, or maybe a rock star,

So go ahead. Experiment. Discover who you are.
