Do Not Go Gently Into Bed at Night

Do not go gently into bed at night.

Kids like to stay up late, I do suppose.

Rage, rage, complain, and cry and whine and fight.

Old folk somehow do not think it is right,

When we won’t brush our teeth or change our clothes.

Do not go gently into bed at night.

And when your parents tuck you in all tight,

Please quickly kick the blankets off your toes.

Rage, rage, complain, and cry and whine and fight.

A smart kid screams for water out of spite,

When back and forth to pee he always goes.

Do not go gently into bed at night.

Scream, “Monsters! Monsters!” when they shut the light.

They might then let you watch more TV shows.

Rage, rage, complain, and cry and whine and fight.

And then, come morning, when the sun shines bright,

Try to protest, and say you need to doze.

Do not go gently into bed at night.

Rage, rage, complain, and cry and whine and fight.
